X-Ray Preps (Women's):
Digital Mammogram - do not wear deodorant, powder or perfume on the
day of the exam. Avoid caffeine products. If possible, wear two pieces of clothing.
BRING
YOUR PRIOR MAMMOGRAM FILMS WITH YOU
Bone Densitometry - No calcium tablets on day of exam. No cheese
or milk products on day of exam.
ULTRASOUND PREPS:
Renal - Drink 24oz of water finishing one hour prior to exam.
DO NOT void.
Pelvic - Drink 32oz of water finishing one hour prior to exam.
DO NOT void.
OB - Early OB (16 weeks and earlier)
- drink 32 oz of water finishing one hour prior to exam. DO NOT void; OB over
16 weeks - no prep.
Abdominal - nothing by mouth after midnight the night prior to exam
(except medications with minimal amount of water).
Stereotactic Breast Biopsy - questionnaire at scheduling
Uterine Fibroid Embolization - consultation at Santa Fe Imaging, procedure
at St. Vincent Regional
Medical Center
General Exam Preps:
UGI/Small Bowel - nothing by mouth after midnight the evening prior to the exam. Nothing to
eat or drink until the exam is completed. No smoking or gum chewing.
IVP - For adults, use a fleet enema kit 12 hours before the exam. Follow instructions in kit.
Obtain kit from Santa Fe Imaging.
MRI Preps:
MRI - If possible, wear a sweatsuit or other comfortable clothes. No jewelry or eye makeup.
Please bring any pertinent x-rays.
ABD/Pelvis - nothing to eat or drink after midnight day prior to exam. Arrive 30 minutes prior
to appointment.
MRA - Cartoid, no prep.
MRCP - nothing to eat or drink after midnight day prior to exam. Arrive 30 minutes prior to
appointment.
CT SCAN Preps:
Head and Chest - no food or drink (except medications) at least four hours prior to exam. For
chest scans, bring most recent chest x-ray. If you have a history of iodine allergies, please call (505) 954-4233.
Abdomen - no food or drink (except medications) at least four hours prior to exam. Obtain C
Scan and instructions from Santa Fe Imaging. If you have a history of iodine allergies, please call (505) 954-4233.
Pelvis and Abdomen - same as prep for CT Abdomen and expect a C Scan enema at the time of exam.

CT Colonoscopy - bowel cleansing prep kit. Follow 24 hour instruction. Obtain kit from
Santa Fe Imaging.
Sinus, Spine and Extremeties - no preparation necessary. Please bring most recent x-rays of
area to be scanned.
